I don’t know about everyone else, but this crisp air has put me in the mood for some fall baking. I want to whip my kitchen into an apple, cinnamon, pumpkin, and caramel flurry. I want flakey pie shells, spiced cider, and dangit, I want to wear a sweater.
It’s been awhile since I’ve spotlighted a favorite author. So, as long as we’re talking food, Sarah Addison Allen comes to mind. Allen’s writing always makes me hungry. Her books are rich with sensory detail, and she has a pretty style that I enjoy. All of her stories are sprinkled with magical elements, making her writing sparkle. I’m eager to add her latest novel, The Peach Keeper, to my Kindle, because once October hits, all I’ll want to do is bake, watch cutesy Halloween movies, and curl up with a good book. Oh, and wear a sweater.
If you’re interested in a small sample of her writing, she features a short essay on her website.
In other news, the hot air balloon artwork I promised is coming along well. It took several drafts to tighten up the overall design, and now I’m moving into the coloring phase. I’m very excited about the color palette. I think it really pops (yeah, that was a pun). I hope you’ll like it too!
