The Sacrifice

I’ve had a touch of art block lately, so I decided to visit artprompts.org and let it do the thinking for me. I pressed a button, and it spat out “The Sacrifice” as my random prompt.

And of course, the first image to pop into my mind was a gory, Aztec-esque virgin sacrifice. Which probably would have been fun to paint, but super awkward to research. So I decided to go with a more family-friendly angle.

To me, sacrifice is just giving up something you want now for something you want more later. And in the end, most worthwhile sacrifices don’t really feel like sacrifices at all. So this piece is my tribute to good fathers everywhere who give up sleep, leisure, and even dreams to provide comfort, stability, and opportunities for their families. I hope you enjoy it.
